DYKEHOUSE PRESS is a press that makes publications first and foremost for dykes, and secondly, also for anyone who loves them. We work with writers who are self-proclaimed dykes, and welcome anyone who uses that label. This very much includes trans dykes and bi dykes.
We look for writing that is queer beyond the author's identity or their characters' identities. We want to showcase the queer elements of writing beyond naming the literal. This is why we focus on poetry. In poetry, and hopefully soon in nonfiction, we are particularly interested in queer temporality, gender abolition, (reimagined) folktales, anger, yearning, and translation. We are interested in working with poetry in translation, writers who don't write in their first language, and writers who play with and mix languages.
Poetry is not a luxury, yet in some ways it is. We work hard to make our zines as affordable as possible, while also paying our contributors. We also work hard to get the zines into as many (zine) libraries as possible, so you can also read our work there. If you're a bookseller reading this – please don't mark up our zines. We'd happily work out a trade discount with you.
